Review: In Your Room by Jordanna Fraiberg

Title: In Your Room

Author: Jordanna Fraiberg
Series: Stand Alone
Published By: Razorbill (October 16, 2008)
Source: Purchased
Genre: YA Contemporary
My Rating: 4 Stars!

Book Description:
Molly and Charlie have fallen head over heels in love, although they've never met. Molly is a fashion-conscious city girl in L.A., and Charlie is an earthy, mountain-biking dude from Boulder, Colorado. Each of them has big plans with their respective friends for the summer until they discover that their parents decide to swap houses! Luckily there's no amount of homesickness that a bit of snooping can't cure. Charlie and Molly begin crawling under beds and poking around in closets to find out a little more about each other. Can Charlie and Molly's long-distance romance survive jealousy, misunderstandings and the thousand miles between them?

My Thoughts and Review:
I picked up this book because, even though it is a few years old, there is still quite a bit of hype about it in the blogsphere. I actually purchased it a year or so ago and just haven't made time to read it (how pathetic is that?). Thankfully I did make time for it because it is one of those books that takes you completely by surprise by how wrapped up in it you actually get. I thought this was going to be a complete fluff read and while it could be called a fluff read, it really is so much more than that.

I adored Charlie and Molly and I love how the author not only gives us glimpses into their lives while living in each others rooms 1000 miles apart but by their sweet and fun conversations with one another through email and IM. I think I smiled the most during their conversations with one another. It was sweet to see their relationship develop over time and to see how they grew from it not only as friends but individually as well, really, it was brilliantly done. It seemed so effortless and flowed so nicely. The conversation were never forced or awkward to read and get into. Like I said, pretty brilliantly done. For sure one of the better stories I have read where an author does this method and yes, that is saying something about the author's talent because as we all know, I read A LOT so I don't say that lightly.

I loved the ending of this one too. It wasn't over dramatic but simple and sweet and left it open for endless possibilities which seemed quite fitting to Charlie and Molly's story.

I will definitely be getting anything in the future this author writes because I really enjoyed this one and I didn't want it to end.

  2. I haven't heard of this one before Ali, but it definitely sounds like something I would enjoy. I love reads that have plenty of fluff but are also more than that as well, and while I'm not a huge fan of open endings, it sounds like this is open in a positive way rather than a frustrating, unanswered question type of way, so I think I'll be good with it. Fantastic review!

  6. *sigh* I have so many books I've been keeping unread on my shelves for over a year. I totally understand.
I love the idea of them being in each other's rooms. It's very cute and reminds me of Flat-Out Love in a way. I think I might like this.
    Lovely review, Ali!
